I watched this yesterday with Raz! I had a good time with it.
I originally found out about this movie through an episode from the pillpod about it. Got pretty curious as they said it represented the method of Lacan well. Of course, I haven't read Lacan directly so..I can't truly comment on whether that is true or not. I read some lacanian ideas through ZIzek but even there I didn't get in too deep...
I found the story to be really charming nonetheless, even without the understanding of lacanianism is fully about I found the unraveling of Seriema to be very engaging. I think the back and forth shots and the rhythm of them kept me continually engaged. The camera grows more intimate as the movie goes on. Closer and closer does it get. On the couch all distance is closed. Then it is time for Seriema to say goodbye to Lacan. After the full realization the cure is completed and the knots are unwound, now she must let go of the psychoanalyst too. Here you can see the importance of the distance coming through in psychoanalysis.
From what I know of Lacan, it is this moment which is important, now she can continue her life engaged without being neurotically obsessed about her own state.
He says Adios and she says Adieau to Lacan, this is a lovely play of interchange, the weight of language has been lifted, the complex castrated.
So we say "Adieu" to Lacan. but what does saying Adieu to Lacan mean for us, the viewers? What does it mean for us to say goodbye to Lacan in this age? One where we have focused on ourselves to a deeply intense degree? Where our "persoonhoods" and "states" are so intensly obsessed over, perhaps it is time for us to let go of the father, Lacan! The condition realized and destroyed. The ladder of persoonhood is climbed and then abandoned! Adieu! Lacan! Towards a desert I say!
